Our Little Fish

When I signed Van up for swimming lessons I was unsure how he would be.  He can be very cautious with new experiences and while he mostly loves playing in the water he always takes a while to warm up to it.  I knew it would be good for him even if he didn't love it but I hoped he would also really have fun.  We did a week long session with lessons every day.  The first day it took him 15 min to get in and stay in the water.  He didn't do any of the exercises that involved putting any part of his head or face in the water but he did to "starfish" with the teacher pulling him through the water by the end.  He came home really excited about it though and was telling Brian all about his teacher Lizzie.  Each day he got a little less cautious and by Thursday he just got right in the water and did almost everything Lizzie asked of him and even went all the way under the water.  On the final day they let all of the kids jump off the diving board one time.  Van was SO nervous.  He even got out of line and told me he was NOT going.  In the end he found the courage.  He was the absolute last kid of all the classes to do it but he did it!  Brian and I were so proud of him!!  That was a very big deal for him and he is so proud of himself too!  I'm so happy that he had such a good experience:)
