Bye Bye Blackie

Today we are mourning the loss of our car Blackie. About 10 days ago I got the call every wife dreads...... "I'm okay, but the car is pretty messed up". A van turned right in front of Brian and he had no way to avoid hitting him. There were several witnesses and the driver of the van admitted that it was all his fault and the damage to the car didn't seem that bad so we felt very grateful that it wasn't worse. Well, turns out that it was not as simple as we thought. It took until this morning to fiiiiiinaaaaaaly get the insurance company for the other guy to accept 100% liability (the insurance adjuster actually worked pretty hard and fought with her manager to get it so thank you Jean!). Unfortunately we also were told that they got the estimate for the damage and the car is TOTALED!! I almost cried when I heard this. We LOVED this car!! Can't beat a Honda civic for reliability and gas mileage. Other than a little brake work we have had absolutely no problems and we were planning on getting another 100,000 miles out of it :( Now we have the impossible task of deciding what to do next. We'll never be able to find a car to replace it that is half as nice and reliable with the insurance check. This car has been with us through so much over the past four years.
* Brian picked me up in for our first date*
*this is the car we were sitting in the first time Brian held my hand*
*this is the car we drove to California the first time I met his family*
*this is the car Brian drove to visit me in Colorado the first time he said "I Love You"*
*this is the car we drove down the California coast the summer after we got married*
*this little trooper of a car pulled our little U-haul all the way to Texas when we graduated college and were moving to start our grown up jobs*
*this is the car we drove from Houston to the tip of Florida and back on Christmas break when we lived in Texas*
*This is the car we've moved across the country and back in*
Call me sentimental but I have so many good memories tied up in this car. Goodbye Blackie, we love you!!!
This is the best picture of him I could find. Driving through a redwood!

Glad Brian is okay! I'll put a punt in for an American-made vehicle...GO USA! But I agree about Honda's reliability :) Anyway, look on the bright side, at least you don't have to pay taxes on the new car:) RIP Blackie!

Sad day! Glad Brian is okay, but losing a car is rough. I'm sure you guys will find another car to fill it's big "tires". :) Good luck finding a new car.
