Weekend Getaway

We have been talking about taking a little getaway for a while now but haven't been able to find the time until this last weekend. With all of the stressful things that have been happening this fall it could not have come at a better time. Once we decided it would be this past weekend Brian decided it would be fun to surprise me with the destination. I LOVE surprises so I of course let him. All he told me ahead of time was that we would be leaving Friday right after work and that we would be staying in a Yurt so I could pack accordingly. A Yurt was something new to us so I was excited about that. So here's how our weekend went.......

-Friday-

Brian picked me up after work and told me we were headed to Nehalem State Park on the coast and that we were stopping in Lincoln City for some shopping at the Outlet Mall. There was some amazing sales and we both walked away with some new pants. When we arrived at the Yurt we were more impressed than we thought. There was furniture and a heater!

*I forgot to put the battery back in our camera after I charged it so we don't have any pictures! Please excuse the googleimages! You get the idea!

-Saturday-

It was a little rainy in the morning so we started the day with a tour of the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Brian thought it would be hilarious to pretend we were on our honeymoon. We didn't actually tell anyone that we were honeymooners but Brian had a good time laughing at his own "cheesiness" in pretending. Brian's favorite part was the free samples. He's every stores dream when it comes to samples. He totally gets sucked in and of course we ended up buying a hunk of his favorite sample, the Vintage White Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese. The ice cream was good too!

That afternoon the sun came out!! We drove out to Cape Meares and took a tiny (.5 mile round trip) hike to see a lighthouse and the view. It was so gorgeous!

We also saw the Octopus tree. It was pretty crazy. The picture doesn't do it justice.

We spent the rest of the afternoon walking on the beach near our Yurt. You don't get that many sunny bright days on the Oregon coast so we had to take advantage of it. It was just so relaxing.

-Sunday-

Sunday morning was bright and sunny once again so we walked on the beach for a long time once again before heading north. We drove along the coast stopping at all the little scenic overlooks and even saw a bald eagle. At Cannon Beach we turned inland and headed home.

It was a great weekend. Just what we needed!
