On May 27th Van turned 1! We celebrated as a little family of three on his actual birthday and celebrated again over the weekend since Jason, Amy, and Emi came for a visit. It ended up being more of a birthWEEKEND rather than a birthDAY. Stretching out birthday celebrations is beginning to be a bit of a habit at our house but it's fun! I'm thinking Van will probably always get to stretch his birthday fun since it will pretty much always fall right around or during Memorial Day weekend.
THURSDAY
On Thursday Van and I had a fun mommy and me day while we waited for Brian to get off work. We went to the grocery store where Van got to shake every item before we bought it. We had a couple of little friends come by and play for a little while and Van got to eat all his favorite things for breakfast and lunch.
I took this picture as we were getting ready to go to the store. One of the best parts of being 1 is now he can ride facing forward! He loves it and he looks so old doing it!

After work we met Brian and took Van on a little shopping spree. We took him to a toy store and got him the most annoying cow mooing toy that he loves. He mooed that silly thing the entire car ride home later and had a grin on his face the whole time! We also let him pick out a couple of new books, his fav.

After shopping we took Van out for a little dinner and some birthday ice cream (no cake since we were doing that on the weekend). Van started with some goldfish as an appetizer and he really meant business.

They actually did play a little bit this time now that Van is getting bigger. Very cute!Sunday
On Sunday Van got a few more presents from friends and family and got to try his birthday cake. This truck set was one of his favorite presents. It came with a hard hat and he loves to wear it. He HATES when I put hats on him but this one he tries to put on himself and once I help him get it on he just grins the cheesiest grin!

Birthday cake! Van really likes our fish, Swish, so I decided to make him a shark cake for his birthday. Plus I saw it in a magazine and thought it was cute :) I think he likes it!

I am so impressed with the cake Linds!!! Awesome. You're setting the bar pretty high for all of his future cakes! I love all of these pictures. It's sad though because he's starting to look less like a baby and more like a little boy :(. Tell him to slow down until July when we come to visit. Thanks.
He looks like such a big boy in his carseat!!! When Carson and I go shopping i always let him squeeze the bags of food that make a lot of noise! He loves it. Can't wait to see you guys!!!
what a cute family you are! I love all the pictures. It was so fun to see you this week, let's do it again soon!
I could have sworn I posted a comment...Oh well, here's another. Happy birthday in May Van! The cake is awesome and Van seems like an awesome little guy. I posted McKay's birthday blog the same day as this one and it is a little similar. I swear I wasn't copying you:) I hope to see you guys soon and to eventually meet your little man!
