I took Van in to get a flu shot and I could not believe how mature and brave he was about the whole thing! I talked to him about it the day before and several times the day of. I told him we were going to the doctor to get a poke and that it would hurt but only for a second. We talked about being brave and I promised him a treat after. On the way to the doctor's office he kept exclaiming "going to the doctor"! I was a little concerned that he was so excited thinking he hadn't understood and would feel extremely betrayed when he got the shot. He proved me wrong! He was very happy while we waited and kept telling me the colors of everything and talking about all the other kids that were waiting too. "she wearing a purple coat mommy!". Once we were in the little room where the action was to happen he was a little more reserved but still fine. Last time we went to the doctor he started crying and clinging to me at this point so I was encouraged. When the nurse left to get the syringe he looked up at me and quietly said "mommy, I don't want a poke". Sad, but then I knew he really did understand what was happening and he was really being super brave! He was nervous for the actual stick but he just held my hands tight and he didn't even cry! Before he was even off the table he was asking so sweetly for the promised sticker from the nurse;) All the way home he kept telling me "I sit on the table, then I get poke, then I get sticker! I'm so brave at the doctor!" Once I asked him if he cried and he replied "I not crying, I just happy!" He was so proud of himself and I am so proud of my brave boy!
Here he is with his hard earned sticker! He was VERY excited about that sticker and that he got it for being so brave.

I know I say this a lot but I really am blown away at fast he is growing up. He has matured SO much this fall and sometimes I look at him and I don't really even see a toddler anymore! Luckily that's only sometimes and if he is acting too old for my taste I just give him a squeeze and kiss those chubby cheeks and he doesn't seem so grown up anymore;)

Wow! That is very brave. I remember being much older than Van and having to be restrained for a shot. What a very good, smart boy you have!
