Race Day!!!

Today was not like any other day. Today, Brian ran in his first 10K race! He decided to sign up for it only a few short weeks ago and was determined to run. This day crept up on us faster than we imagined and Brian wasn't sure he was ready but he did AWESOME! I made sure to document this day....

The race was at Hagg Lake about an hour away from home so to make it there well before the 9 o'clock start time we rose early and departed at 6:45.......

It took us a little longer than we thought since our GPS led us to a ferry that we weren't expecting (seriously, where in the world do people still use ferries instead of building a bridge!Geez!) and had to backtrack a bit. But at long last we arrived with 40 minutes to spare.

Brian began his pre-race preparation...
He had to make sure his laces were good and tight.

He had to size up the competition....
I tried to talk him into trading shorts with the guy second from left but he wouldn't go for it.

And of course he had to assume the position....
what a serious runner!!! Go number 406!

At 9 o'clock they were off like a flash. So flashy in fact that I couldn't spot him in the crowd and I couldn't get a picture!
The race was on! 10K of hills, sore feet, and exhaustion lay ahead.

Meanwhile..... back at the lake, I was engaged in reading a good book and enjoying the view....

About an hour later........

The finish line was in view! Brian rounded the corner and sprinted..

To the finish!!! With an impressive first race time of 1 hour, 1 minute, and 59 seconds!!

Since he had run like a tiger he had to rehydrate like one too (look at the gatorade bottle if you don't get this)

A trip to the treat table was also a necessity. Nothing helps your recoup from a long race better than energy food like bananas and .....cinnamon rolls?!

Finally, it was time for the awards ceremony, they called out the winners. Both from the race and from the raffle they had. Brian was the WINNER!!

.......of a pie from the raffle

Overall it was a pretty good day. I am so proud of my running man!
