Living The Life

One of our favorite (and there are many) things about having a house is being part of a neighborhood. We go for walks all the time and we just love it. Our cul-de-sac has apparently undergone a thinning of trees in the last year (that's what our neighbor said)so there are not as many mature trees but the surrounding streets have lots of big leafy trees.

Brian ALWAYS finds some kind of treasure on our walks. Last week it was a huge bamboo stick. Notice the whipping stick he is holding in this picture

This is the park one block from our house. It's certainly not the biggest or coolest around but it is close and pretty quiet so we love it.

Now that Brian's grad school class is over we have had time in the mornings to work in the yard. We have big plans but they will take a couple of years to be realized. To start with we have been trying to revive the front lawn and do some landscaping.
In this corner there used to be a decorative bridge and some shrubs. The bridge was in sad disrepair and the shrubs were not doing well so we ripped them out and used the bricks from the old structure to construct this..

It will eventually be a strawberry patch and have a tree at the top. We have big plans for a vegetable garden in the back yard for next year.

Oh, I'm kind of jealous that you guys are settled somewhere! I feel so transient. Your house looks darling!
