Mad Skills

This week there has been a couple of incidences that have humbled me a bit in regards to my "crafty" abilities. I consider myself more than capable when it comes to cooking or housekeeping (and until this weeks sewing as well) but am sadly lacking when it comes to more crafty things like scrap booking or posters.
As I said I am pretty handy with a sewing machine these days but this week I was reminded this was not always the case. I was organizing the boxes from my childhood that my mom sent me when we bought a house since we have room now and couldn't help but open them up and get lost in the treasures I found. I spent a couple of hours looking at old yearbooks and reading the messages in them (hilarious) and then I came across this beauty. It's the first quilt I ever made. My best friend Robin and I decided we wanted to make a quilt. We were maybe 12 so we asked her mom Karie who is wonder woman with a sewing machine to help us. She kindly let us use all her scraps and we made matching quilts! Isn't it beautiful!?! I went up to Vancouver this week to see Robin and I took this with me and we were just cracking up at it. The fabric, the crooked seems, the shrunken backing (apparently didn't wash it beforehand) and the uneven edges. The best part is we were soooo proud of ourselves at the time. We LOVED these quilts.
The other humbling experience involved these lovely posters below. You better be thinking..
"what, these posters are amazing, why would this be a humbling experience?" ...
Yeah they turned out fabulous but it took me and a new friend (due to the project) from the ward Jenn, like 4 HOURS to make them. We were so proud of ourselves and the finished product that I cannot wait to go to church today and see them in the foyer! It is sad how excited I am that I made one of these posters. It was humbling when I realized it took me about 10 times as long to accomplish this then the average crafty person.

The quilt- I love those kind of memories. The posters - I don't think I could make posters look so good even if I worked on it for hours! I am very craft challenged!

I am definitely going to have to find your quilts twin in my parents basement while I'm there for Christmas! I think we should make a wager on which one turned out better...
